DEER FLY
Scientific Name: Chrysops
General Size: 1/4-1/3 inch long
Look for these Colors: They are black, yellow and black, or, sometimes, gray and often have “bee-like” abdominal stripes
Bite, can cause allergic reactions and transmit diseases
DRAIN FLY
Scientific name: Psychodidae
General Size: one-tenth inch long
Look for these Colors: Dark gray body and lighter colored wings
Appears "fuzzy"
Often found around sink and shower drains


CLUSTER FLY
Scientific Name: Pollenia rudis
General Size: 7 to 10 millimeters in length
Look for these Colors: Dull-gray with black markings and have golden-yellow hairs on the thorax
Cluster in large groups in dark, secluded places, such as wall cavities, attics, and false ceilings
FRUIT FLY
Scientific Name: Drosophila melanogaster
General Size: Adults are 3 to 4 mm long
Look for these Colors: Brown or tan in color
May have red eyes.
Found often in kitchens or where food is stored


HOUSE FLY
Scientific Name: Musca domestica
General Size: Adults are about 1/4-1/3 inch long
Appearance: Dark grey in color, the thorax bears four narrow black stripes, has reddish eyes
Attracted to garbage, decaying organic matter
Can contaminate food
INDIAN MEAL MOTH
Scientific Name: Plodia interpunctella
General Size: 3/8 inch long with a wing span of about 5/8 inch
Appearance: Dirty gray but the tip half of the wing is rusty brown or nearly bronze, wings have patterns
Often infest food storage, pantries, grocery stores
